Cherry bomb golf12/4/2023 The touring for Cherry Bomb was kind of disapointing too. ![]() It was like he made a bunch of random songs and made a playlist and released it as an album or he just forgot he needed to release something so he quickly threw something together and called it an album. Also, the album didn’t capture a feeling like his previous works had done. Sure some songs like 2Seater, The Brown Stains and Blow My Load have lyrical substance but those are only small instances. This is just a small example of how poorly written the lyrics are and this is a consistent theme throughout the entire album. The lyrics we’re awful on some of the songs like on ‘Cherry Bomb’ Tyler says “All y'all n****s wear camouflage, I'm in a field wearing pink and blue, I wear pink, they can see me”. The distortion that was sprinkled throughout the album was off putting at times and made it hard for the listener to fully comprehend what’s going on. Nothing about this album was consistent, from the lyrics to the mix it was a mess and at times difficult to listen to. But that’s really all that was done well. Let me first say the production on this album is amazing, Tyler dove into many different genres and really showed us how diverse of a producer he is. This was a huge let down to those who are really focused on numbers, especially after building up tons of momentum over the previous 4 years. Cherry Bomb out did his first studio album by 13,000 and under performed his Sophomore album by 31,000 and dropped 1 Billboard 200 position. Now, Wolf sold 89,000 first week and peaked at number 3 and Goblin sold 45,000 first week and peaked at number 5 on Billboard 200. Plus, peaking at number 4 for any artist is considered extremely successful unless you’re Drake or DJ Kahled. I know this is a wide ass range but it depends on the artist's popularity. ![]() The sales for any artist average anywhere from 50,000 - 500,000. ![]() Cherry Bombs first week sales were 58,000 and peaked at number 4 on Bilboards 200. Tyler was showing us his natural progression as an artist while still being authentic to himself.įirst, let's look at the numbers. The lyrical content on Wolf also showed the listener that he’s matured lyrically from his Freshmen release. Wolf had a summer camp vibe with warm sounding drums and simple but beautiful piano chords. The work Tyler did on the OF Tape Vol 2 moved away from those Goblin type of lyrics and gave us beautiful songs like Analog 2 and meaningful lyrics like his verses on Oldie. Sure, Goblin was a bit raunchy and spooky but it fit the Odd Future theme at the time with projects like MellowHype’s BlackenedWhite that was released in 2010 and then re-released in October of 2011. If you disagree, explain to me why you disagree, what do you think I’m not understanding?Ĭherry Bomb was a disapointing Tyler project, especially when you look at every other body of work he’s put out previously. Also, these are my thoughts on the album, I’m not attacking you so DON’T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY. I just don’t think it should be as praised as it’s been on this sub. Let me preface this by saying I don’t hate Cherry Bomb, I defended it when it first came out by saying it was his best work, I went to multiple shows during this era, and bought tons of merch, I’m aware that doesn’t mean much but I’m not sure how else to say I don’t hate it.
